Ali Mete, Secretary General of the Islamic Community Millî Görüş (IGMG), issued a statement ahead of the EU foreign ministers’ meeting on June 8, which will address the reform of the EU asylum system.

“The mere consideration of expediting the removal of asylum seekers from outside the EU is perceived as a significant regression in terms of safeguarding human rights protection.

The introduction of such a practice would be tantamount to a humanitarian catastrophe,” remarked Mete. He also stated:

“As the Islamic Community Millî Görüş, we are deeply concerned about the direction that both the EU and Germany are taking with regards to the refugee policy.

Shifting asylum procedures to outside the EU borders would represent a significant regression in terms of human rights.

We strongly urge the Federal Government to uphold fundamental human rights, such as the right to seek asylum, without undermining them.

In our opinion, the debate over exempting families and children from the accelerated process is only an attempt to mask a practice that violates human rights as a humanitarian cause.

As the Islamic Community Millî Görüş, we support an asylum policy that is founded on principles of humanity, responsibility, and aligns with our conscience.

It is undeniable that both Germany and Europe have played a role in contributing to the root causes of migration worldwide. This includes factors such as climate change, exploitative trade relations with impoverished nations, and involvement in the arms trade.

It is indeed ironic to engage in discussions about expelling more individuals from the country when what is needed is to address and rectify the underlying issues causing this distressing situation.”
