Infaq: The Economy of Compassion
01. October 2026
Dear Brothers and Sisters!
Islam guides every part of life, including our relationship with wealth. Wealth is not truly ours, but a trust from Allah (swt). Infaq means sharing this trust with those in need to seek our Allah’s pleasure. Therefore, the Qur’an often mentions prayer and infaq together. Prostration strengthens our bond with Allah, infaq strengthens our bonds with people.
Allah (swt) says: “You will never attain righteousness until you spend from that which you love.”[1]Another verse states: “The example of those who spend their wealth in the way of Allah is like a grain that grows seven ears, with a hundred grains in every ear. Allah multiplies the reward for whomever He wills.”[2] True gain with Allah comes not through hoarding, but through sharing.
Dear Brothers and Sisters!
This age promotes consumption and measures people by what they own. Earning, owning and spending more are made life’s goal. Yet Islam builds an economy not of competition but compassion, not selfishness but sharing. Infaq meets the needs of the poor and purifies the heart of the wealthy. It turns stinginess into generosity, greed into contentment and loneliness into brotherhood. Infaq is not only wealth given away, but mercy growing in the heart.
The Messenger of Allah (saw) said, “Charity does not diminish wealth.”[3] In another hadith, he said, “The giving hand is better than the receiving hand. Begin by helping those under your care!“[4] These hadiths teach that infaq brings blessing to wealth. It begins with our families, then reaches relatives, neighbours, orphans, students, travellers and everyone in need.
Dear Brothers and Sisters!
Infaq is not only giving money. Sharing knowledge, giving time, guiding a young person, checking on an elderly neighbour, visiting the sick and mending a wounded heart are also infaq. We must leave our children not only wealth, but the values of sharing, gratitude and caring for others. Without compassion, blessings fade, without sharing, trust disappears.
Let us remember, Allah does not ask for the abundance of our wealth, but the richness of our hearts. Every act of infaq shows our trust in Him. The giving hand trusts Allah’s promise.
Dear Brothers and Sisters!
Each year, our organisation calls us to goodness through the Infaq Campaign. Our contributions will bring dozens of projects across our regions to life. Mosques, complexes, education centres and schools will be built and developed. If we want such works to remain in our books of deeds, let us share what Allah has given us. Let us stand with the righteous and help goodness and beauty spread.
May Allah (swt) make us among those who earn lawfully, see infaq not as a burden but a blessing, preserve the dignity of those in need when giving, and place compassion at the heart of life. Ameen.
