Faith In Destiny

Kur'an Sayfası Tesbih Ahşap

Dear Brothers and Sisters!

Believing in destiny is a part of the conditions of faith. Destiny means that Allah (swt) knows the nature, time and place, attributes and characteristics of everything that has happened and will happen. Allah (swt) has ordained a perfect measure for everything, including man and his life. Allah (swt) says in the Quran, Indeed, all things We created with predestination.”[1]

Dear Brothers and Sisters!

Everything from the creation of the universe in six periods, the formation of man in nine months in the mother’s womb and his perfection as creation, from the solar system to the system of atoms, has been appreciated with this perfect measure. The testing of humans and jinn is also a constant part in this destiny. How many good deeds and how many sins are assigned to each good deed is also determined by Allah (swt). As believers, we are responsible for believing and being submissive to the destiny created by Allah (swt), which was planned with all this wisdom.

Dear Jama’ah!

We believe that all the decrees we can see both in our own creation and in the universe contain endless wisdom and that all of them are signs of the divine mercy of Allah (swt). In this way, we look for the wisdom behind every event we experience and the mercy that Allah (swt) hides in it. Events may be positive or negative, the results may not please our souls despite our good intentions. But even in such cases, Allah (swt) treats us with His mercy. Because Allah (swt) knows us better than we do, and nothing happens without His knowledge and permission. Therefore, belief in destiny is a means of peace.
Dear Brothers and Sisters!

It is narrated that the Prophet Muhammad (saw) said: From the happiness of the son of Adam is his acceptance of what Allah has decreed for him, and from the misery of the son of Adam is his rejection of what Allah has decreed for him.”[2] For us to be happy and at peace, we must realise the truth that there is endless goodness in every good that Allah (swt) decrees, and endless mercy in every good deed. We, the servants, that may not be able to understand, must believe in this destiny of Allah (swt). However, this fact does not mean that we will remain passive and not take the initiative. On the contrary, it is a requirement of our faith that we strive to achieve higher goals.

Dear Brothers and Sisters!

Again Rasulullah (saw) said about this topic, A strong believer is better and is more lovable to Allah than a weak believer, and there is good in everyone, (but) cherish that which gives you benefit (in the Hereafter) and seek help from Allah and do not lose heart, and if anything (in the form of trouble) comes to you, don’t say: If I had not done that, it would not have happened so and so, but say: Allah did that what He had ordained to do and your “if” opens the (gate) for the Satan.[3]

Then, our belief in destiny is also an indicator of our strength. Because this belief is a clear proof of our submission to Allah Himself, not to the events themselves. It is not possible for a person who leans himself and his whole life on Allah (swt) to create fear about the past, present and future in a way that will tire him. Therefore, we must always keep our faith fresh in order to gain the benefits of believing in destiny.

May Allah (swt) make us among those who truly believe in destiny. Ameen
