Secretary General of the Islamic Community Millî Görüş (IGMG) Ali Mete made a statement on the occasion of World Refugee Day.

“Europe’s moral compass for human rights is veering off course. This will lead to the collapse of shared values and bring suffering to all,” Mete said, adding:

“On World Refugee Day, the overall situation is far from encouraging. Hundreds of migrants are perishing at the European Union’s borders because emergency rescue teams fail to assist them, despite being aware of their presence in a timely manner. Simultaneously, EU nations are collectively imposing exceedingly stringent restrictions on the right to seek refuge.”

On the other hand, racist parties’ votes are increasing in the polls in almost every region of Europe. As the Islamic Community Millî Görüş, we are deeply concerned about this. We urge the governments of the EU member states to stick to their human rights principles and implement measures that promote accountability and humanity.

Otherwise, it will first cause shared values to collapse, which will subsequently cause suffering and ruin for everyone. We will never be able to support a policy that prioritizes economic and national interests over the needs of the people.

We are exceedingly worried that individuals are no longer regarded as Allah’s servants who are deserving of assistance but rather as a financial burden. In particular, the suffering of Millions of people worldwide brought on by the European Union’s emissions-related climate change, the arms trade, or unfair trade practices should never be disregarded.

This leads to warfare, hunger, or poverty in many regions of the world. Blocking the routes of people who are trying to escape these effects in order to live a better life is irresponsible and inconsistent with our understanding of humanity.”
