My Dear Brothers and Sisters!

Family is the most crucial element within the society and civilization as a whole. If one protects their family privacy it will ensure them peace and security. It is very important to take the responsibility to know and protect; family privacy values, loyalty and the love bonds within the family. Today, however, we all see the extent to which family privacy measure are weakening, especially over social media.

Dear Jama’ah!

It is a requirement of our faith that we observe and strengthen the privacy measure within our families. Islam, which provides us with a perfect lifestyle has certain rules necessary for this. And of course, the place we must protect in terms of family privacy are our homes. Just like our first home, the Ka’bah. Allah (swt) says about the Ka’bah, “And whoever enter it shall be safe.“[1]

It is the responsibility of all family members to ensure our homes are protected from all kinds of evil and negativity in order to provide a safe and peaceful home.

My Dear Brothers and Sisters!

It is seen Today, that the most damaging and devaluating effect on family privacy is cause by social media. Social media has now become a platform where people are sharing private and intimate information of family issues. This in return is exposing family matters and severely damaging family relationships.

Again, people no longer hesitate to display their inappropriate behaviors on social media. It is the case where their inappropriate behaviors are being investigated and viewed by other people. Just as we need to protect ourselves and our families from these negative and immoral issues, it is inappropriate and haram to follow and watch in curiosity when other people reveal their private lives and matters on social media.

Allah (swt) says in Surah Nur; “O you who have believed, do not enter houses other than your own houses until you ascertain welcome and greet their inhabitants. That is best for you; perhaps you will be reminded.”[2]

My Dear Brothers and Sisters!

Let us not forget that our families and our homes are special and should be kept that way. Let us prevent violations of family privacy at all times. Let us not allow family values to be devalued especially on social media. Let us not forget, that when photos and personal information are shared on social media it will cause more family problems and relationships will suffer.

My Dear Brothers and Sisters!

Family privacies can be best protected by following the guidelines set by the Quran and Rasulullah (saw). Do not let the electronic devices and social media platforms imprison us and our families. Once our measures are put into place only then we will better understand how valuable our families are.

May Allah (swt) allow us to succeed in protecting our family privacy and let us not fall into the Shaytan’s traps. Ameen.
