Neglecting the Quran

15. October 2025
Koran Tasbih Rot

Dear Brothers and Sisters!
The Qur’an is the last divine book sent by Allah to humanity. It is the sole source of truth that remains valid until the Day of Judgment. Allah (swt) says: “This Qur’an has been revealed by Allah and is not fabricated by anyone. Rather, it has been sent to confirm what came before it and to explain the Book. There is no doubt that it comes from the Lord of all the worlds.”[1]

Dear Brothers and Sisters!
The Qur’an is the word of Allah. It is guidance, mercy, advice and light. It is not merely a book to be read, but a system for life. It provides direction in every area, from faith to morality, from worship to social life. Our Prophet (saw) compared the Qur’an to rainfall, saying, “The guidance and knowledge that Allah sent with me is like abundant rain falling on the earth…”[2] Just as rain falls on different types of soil, making some fertile, allowing some to merely absorb water and causing floods in others, so too does the Qur’an affect hearts differently: some hearts open and are blessed, some benefit only lightly and some remain entirely unmoved; in fact, for the hearts of the wrongdoers, the Qur’an only increases their harm.[3]

Dear Jama’ah
In many of its verses, the Qur’an speaks about itself and defines its own nature. It is described as a “clear book,” “guidance and good news for the believers,” “containing every example,” “teaching,” and “honourable.” It is also a “wise,” “leading to the truth” dhikr, that is, a “lesson” or “advice.” All these verses show us that the Qur’an is not merely a text, but a divine guide that directs us in every aspect of our lives.

Dear Brothers and Sisters
In Surah Al-Furqan, it is narrated that our Prophet (saw) presented his situation to Allah, saying: “My Lord! My people have abandoned this Qur’an.”[4] To abandon it means keeping the Qur’an confined to books, reciting it at graves or in rituals, yet failing to live by its guidance. As a result, individual Muslims become spiritually weak, the Muslim community loses its unity, and among people, injustice replaces fairness, while selfishness takes the place of brotherhood.

Dear Jama’ah
At the root of the crises, divisions and unrest experienced by Muslim communities today lies a distancing from the Qur’an. The Qur’an is not only a guide for the individual but also a blueprint for the salvation of society. Communities that follow its light stand firm with justice, grow strong through brotherhood and find peace through mercy. “Indeed, this Qur’an guides to the most upright way.”[5]

Dear Brothers and Sisters!
Islamic Community Millî Görüş, as a reflection of this understanding, hold the “Qur’an Recitation Competition” every year to keep the love and respect for the Qur’an alive. This blessed competition, which began in our mosques forty years ago, is being held this year for the 37th time in one of Germany’s most beautiful halls, the Stadthalle Bielefeld. We invite you, dear brothers and sisters, to Europe’s first and only Qur’an Recitation Competition, which will take place on Saturday, October 18, starting at 1:30 PM.

May Allah (swt) make us among those who love the Qur’an and hold firmly to it. May He make the Qur’an our companion in this world and our friend in Paradise. Ameen.
