Value of Time

Allah (swt) the owner of time and everything says, “Blessed is He who has placed in the sky great stars and placed therein a [burning] lamp and luminous moon. And it is He who has made the night and the day in succession for whoever desires to remember or desires gratitude.”[1]. Human existence is dependent on place and time. In these realities created by Allah (swt), all creatures, especially us, maintain their liveliness. Since a place is a tangible asset, its value is more easily understood. However, since time is an intangible entity, we, as servants, can sometimes be neglectful about understanding its value and giving it its due. However, realising the importance of time and using our days, hours, minutes and even seconds accordingly is one of the conditions for our success in this world and the next.

Khutba: Understanding the Day of Ashura

Dear Brothers and Sisters! In the history of mankind, many important events occurred on the Day of Ashura, which comes on the tenth of the month of Muharram. The blessed grandchild of our Muhammad (saw), Hussain (r.a), was killed on the Day of Ashura together with seventy-two other people beside Him. Again, it is narrated that the ship of Prophet Noah (a.s.) had escaped from the flood and that Prophet Moses (a.s.) had passed the Red Sea with his people on the Day of Ashura that comes on the tenth of Muharram.

Whilst counting the blessings Allah (swt) has bestowed upon us he mentions in the Quran: “And We created you in pairs.” And there is no doubt that the marriage bond between a man and a woman is the most beautiful bond between two people. In order to emphasise the importance of marriage, Rasulallah (saw) addressed the youth as follows: “O young men, whoever among you can afford it, let him get married, for it is more effective in lowering the gaze and guarding chastity, and whoever cannot then he should fast, for it will be a restraint for him.” Therefore, a believer finds the opportunity to complete his religion by protecting himself from haram through marriage.

Dear Brothers and Sisters! One of the most special and exceptional time periods in terms of reward is the upcoming month of Dhul-Hijjah. The month of Dhul-Hijjah, which will start from next Sunday, contains many blessings. The month of Dhul-Hijjah is considered to be one of the sacred months in Islam, in which it is specifically forbidden to do injustice. Even though it has not been done for the past two years due to the pandemic, it is the day of pilgrimage where millions of Muslims gather in Arafat, Mina and Muzdalifah to make the pilgrimage and perform prayers and worship that will lead to purification.
